Sleek Blush

I'm sorry I haven't blogged for a little while, I've been trying to get back into the swing of things with Uni. It seems that when I go home for a while and then go back, it's like starting all over again and I have to get used to my surroundings and also having no food in the fridge. 

But, I'm back blogging again and today I bring you another beauty review: YAY!

When I was younger, as I'm sure many of us did, I relied on my mum to buy me my make up. I was never really one of those girls who was interested in make up, not as much as I am now, and my mum wanted me to try and get into it a little so she used to come home with blushers and different things for me. Sometimes, I look back at the way I used to do my make up and think "What the hell was I thinking?". I've always used Marks and Spencers Collection Blusher. Okay, you might laugh, but it's the only one I've ever tried. My Mum used it, so it's always been the blusher I've used (or stolen) from my mum. However, they no longer sell this blusher, which I found out just a few weeks ago. I was in a hard situation because all my blusher had cracked, I had none left and now I couldn't get anymore. I'm a very pale kid, so blusher is one of those things I need in my makeup bag. 

So, I headed out on the hunt for a new blusher. I didn't want to spend loads on blusher, because I'm a student and I'd say around 80% of the time, I'm completely and utterly broke. It was then that I found 'Sleek'.

This is the 'Sleek Blush' in the colour 'Flushed'. It's the colour that was nearest to the normal colour I use. Don't be put off by the colours they show you on the website, because they're not very accurate. I'd recommend to go into Boots or Superdrug and try the different colours for yourself. Speaking of colours, one thing I love about the 'Sleek' blusher collection is that there is such a large variety of colours; if you don't find the colour you're looking for then I don't know if it even exists. 

Overall, I'm extremely impressed with this product, it doesn't break the bank and it's well worth the price. The application is brilliant and the colour is very vivid so you can really tell you've got the blush on. The only thing I would say is that the colours can sometimes come out a little bright so you will definitely need to blend in; I can't begin to stress to you how important it is to blend!! With my colour being a really pretty pink, it's perfect for all seasons and I'd definitely recommend this colour if you're going for a natural look (which is what I tend to go for). 

The blush itself is only very small, so it's perfect to just throw into your bag and take out with you if you need to just retouch your makeup. I really love the little compact mirror that comes with the blush; it makes the product really easy to apply and again, it's perfect as a small mirror to just take out with you if you want to re-apply makeup or something. It's perfect.

Soap & Glory Solar Powder

Hello Everyone!

Today, I'm going to be raving about one of my favourite beauty products on the high street and that is the Soap & Glory solar powder. Although this doesn't sound like it, the solar powder is actually a bronzer. I was never a girl who used bronzer, I always thought that it made me look orange, became very paranoid, and avoided it like the plague. I remember when I was going to a concert and my mum told me I looked pale so came at me with a brush and bronzing beads. I looked like a wotsit. This is the event that put me off bronzer for life; or so I thought. 

For Christmas two years ago, my mum and dad bought me a Soap & Glory make-up set. I'd been very vague in asking what I wanted, and had simply asked for "makeup". I hadn't given a brand, what type of makeup I wanted or anything like that, so when I opened the Soap & Glory makeup collection, I was very shocked. I'd just like to put it out there that if you're struggling for something to buy for someone, the makeup ranges that Soap & Glory sell at Christmas time are amazing, they make the perfect present. It was a big brown box and when opened, it had a mirror and different little products from the range. This included a highlighter, lipgloss, mascara, six different eyeshadows and the solar powder. As soon as I saw this, the flashback to the bronzer incident replayed in my mind and I simply thought "No". 

However, when it came to doing my makeup that day, I thought I'd give it a try; and this was the best decision I made. The two shades create the perfect balance for a natural glowing bronzed look. The way I apply my bronzer, is I pull a fish face and then use my brush to gently apply the product to my cheek bone and then around the jaw line, filling in any little bits where you think you may need a little bit of colour. I tend to blend the two shades together, but if I'm going for a completely natural makeup look, I only use the lighter shade. 

The bronzer stays on all day, it doesn't budge which is perfect for everyday use. The slight shimmer on the 'S&G' of the product enhances the glowing look it provides to the skin. However, this shimmer tends to be gone by the first use, that'd be my only criticism of the product. When I'd finished the bronzer in the first set, I started to purchase new bronzers to try them out, but nothing beats this for me. It's the product I just keep going back too. 

The handy little compact mirror is perfect to use for the application of the product, and is even better if you're on the go and you just want to touch up your make-up a little. It's also small enough to fit in your handbag which is really good too. I love the way the product feels on the skin, the application is perfect and it doesn't feel heavy. It's also build-able so that you can get that perfect summer (or winter) sun-kissed glow. 

Although this is on the pricer side at £11, the product itself lasts for a very long time, I buy at least one of these a year and it lasts me the full year, and that's with everyday use. It can be purchased from most Boots stores, but it's definitely a must-have for any girls makeup bag!

Lighting up Blackpool

Hello Everyone!

One of the main highlights of my year is going to see the Blackpool Illuminations. I've been going to see them since I was a little girl, so much so, it's become a tradition that we go every year. I'm not going to lie to you, every year, the lights are exactly the same: the same design; the same order; the same colours; everything. Okay maybe I'm over exaggerating there a little, there are some tiny little changes from time to time, but mostly, they are always the same. I guess that's what makes it fun to visit. 

There's always been something about going to see the lights that has fascinated me. I think I just really like all the pretty colours and the way everything changes. I love the way families always look so happy when they walk through the lights together, and as I have grown up, I love seeing how happy the kids are walking through in bewilderment. I remember when I used to be like that as a child. In my family, it's tradition that we have some fish and chips (it's something northern people have to do) and then walk through the big lights, get back into the car and then drive through the little overhead lights. If you've ever been to see the illuminations, then you'll know what I mean. 

When the lights switch on at the beginning of September, you know that Autumn is approaching. There's nothing I love more than walking along the promenade at Blackpool, wrapped up in my woolly scarf with my bobble hat and gloves. I love the smell of the sea and how spectacular the lights look when you actually get to see them up close. I always prefer to walk through the lights, one day, I'd like to walk through all of them. I don't think it'd be possible to do it in one night, but I'd love to do it in two halves. It's a dream of mine. However, the highlight of my year is seeing the teddy bears picnic. This is my favourite attraction at the lights every year and it has been since I was a little girl. It's basically a lot of teddy bears who play in a park; they swing on their swings, spin on a roundabout and slide down the slide. I know it sounds quite creepy but I promise it's not, it's the cutest thing ever. I would also like to speak about the house that sings. Yep. A house that sings. If you think I'm joking then you'll just have to go and see for yourself.

Yesterday, I went to see the illuminations with my family, and being the dedicated blogger that I am, I thought I'd bring along my camera (or my phone) and take a couple of lovely photos to upload on here. Enjoy!
