Disney Halloween Day 5: Donald, Phantom and Saying Goodbye

Disney Day 5
It makes me very sad to say that this is the last post in my Disney Halloween series and it's going to be a short one because I've only got half a day's worth of magic to share with you.
As it was our final day in the park, we said goodbye to our room and checked out of our hotel very early in the morning. We were absolutely shattered from our late night, but that didn't stop us from heading into the park to make the most of the magic we had left. We dropped our luggage off at the concierge and then made our way into the park to meet Anna, Vivi and Jade who were meeting Chip and Dale.

Our only meet of the day, and our last meet of the trip, was with the lovely Donald. We queued with the Birthday Girl Anna, Vivi, Jade and Nicola and after half an hour, it was finally time for us to meet our favourite Duck. Donald has always been a character that I've wanted to meet, but it always seems that every time I'm in Paris, he's never out. As this was my first time meeting Donald, I was just as excited as Jade, who is his biggest admirer and to see those two meeting one another was adorable. He was one of the loveliest meets we had, and definitely the perfect character to end our trip, he was full of loves and cuddles and our photos are SO cute. I wish I was still having cuddles with him.

We then bumped into Cara who was queuing to meet Goofy and I had an argument with a Welsh man who thought I was pushing in when I was just walking past. Anyway, we stood and chatted for a while and then took a very cute group photo. Saying goodbye to Cara, as it was the last time we would see her before we went home, Chloe and I walked over to the Frontierland barrier ready to run to Phantom Manor at rope drop.

Chloe and I had one last ride on Phantom, and although it wasn't as spooky as normal, it was still fun. I don't think either of us wanted this whirlwind experience to end. I never expected to love this trip as much as I did, and I definitely didn't expect to make as many new friends as I did. The more we saw  on our last day, the more it hit us that we were going to be heading back to reality. The one person we really wanted to see before we went home was Laura; after spending every day with each other it was hard to imagine how we were going to cope with being apart. We all formed this really close bond and Laura is like an older sister to me, I absolutely love her.

To pass time before Laura came into the park, Chloe and I went to walk around Frontierland to take in the atmosphere. I think that it was missing something without the screams of people riding Big Thunder Mountain and being able to watch the boat sail around the lake, but it still looked lovely. It was the spookiest of all the lands in the park; they'd really gone to town with the creepy atmosphere.

One thing we hadn't done on this trip was go and look around the Castle. This is definitely one of the more underrated attractions in Disneyland Paris but it's the only Castle in a Disney park that you can actually go inside. It was a very cloudy day, but the park still looked so beautiful. We watched all the crowds rush around and even spotted Cara queuing up to meet Maleficent. It's so amazing to see how happy people are when they're in Disneyland, people lose their worries for a few hours and are enveloped in the magic. It's another world, but it's a world we never wanted to leave. We stood looking over Fantasyland for a very long time until we ventured into the Castle Dungeons to see the Dragon. That creature gets scarier every time I see it.

We left the Castle and went over to meet Anna, Vivi and Jade who had sat down to watch the Cavalcade. That was one thing we really wanted to watch before we left, and we made the most of it being our last one. I think us dancing, singing and hugging every single character that passed us made the Cavalcade the best we watched. When it ended, Laura joined us and then we had to say goodbye to Anna, Vivi and Jade as they were having lunch at Auberge later on in the afternoon. This was the most emotional goodbye we experienced, and if you know me well, you'll know I hate goodbyes. We all burst into tears and spent a good fifteen minutes avoiding leaving by hugging each other and promising that we'd see each other again soon, which I'm very sure we will. Then we had one last group hug and Laura, Chloe and I headed down Main Street to go and do some shopping.

The shops on Main Street are some of my favourites because they always stock the quirkiest things. I really wanted to get myself a Marie plush but I wasn't too keen on them, her eyes were a very strange colour of blue. Instead, I got myself a Marie and Mickey pen, Dr Facilier tsum tsum, a Baloo the Bear hat for my Dad, some tea towels for my Mum and a fridge magnet for my Grandma and Grandad. The Cast Members who work in the shops are so friendly, I had a conversation with the kindest French man who reassured me that I would return soon when I told him that I was sad to be leaving. It really is the Cast Members who make the Disney experience so magical, without them the Park would not be what it is.

Then it came to another hard goodbye with Laura. We stood in front of the band stand on Main Street, attempted to plan a meet up and became extremely sentimental by telling each other how amazing it had been to experience the Halloween Soiree together. We had a big group hug, and with tears in our eyes, Chloe and I walked through the exit gates for the final time, picked up our luggage and headed towards World of Disney.

I always say that letting me roam free in World of Disney is a massive mistake because I end up spending more than I need too, and this trip was no exception. Chloe and I spent a hour walking round, picking up items and putting them into our baskets and then putting some back because we thought we had too much. World of Disney is the biggest shop in the Disney Village and it has everything you could ever want, although you can find some of the things in the parks themselves so it really depends on where you want to shop. Whilst shopping I picked up another Marie mug and a Peter Pan snow globe to remind me of our trip; I do love a snow globe. And then, it was time to go home.

This is the part of our trip I was most apprehensive for; the travelling home part. I didn't like the thought of getting two trains at first, but after calming myself down, it really wasn't as bad as I thought. Despite our train getting delayed which almost caused us to miss our Eurostar, we had a fairly easy journey home. It's crazy how the bulk of reality just hits you when you leave the park, I feel sad just thinking about it. I want to stay there forever. When we arrived back in London, Chloe and I sat in Starbucks in Euston Station and reflected on what a magical trip we had experienced. Then we said our last goodbye of the day, to each other. This was the hardest for me because after spending everyday together, and making a friend for life, it was so hard to just say goodbye. I gave her the tightest squeeze, she hopped on her tube and I hopped on my train back to Liverpool. Until next time.

I hope you've enjoyed reading about my trip as much as I have enjoyed writing about it. I had the most magical time, it's something that I struggle to put into words because some of it is still a blur to me. I don't think I felt down once, and being there reminded me what true happiness feels like and it made me realise that I haven't felt true happiness in over a year. I'd just like to say a quick thank you to everyone who I met, who I watched parade with and who generally made the trip my favourite. I don't think anything will ever compare. But for now, see ya real soon!

Lots of Love,
Meg

Disney Halloween Day 3: Snow Squad, Spookiness and Soiree!

Disney Day 3
Today it was Halloween which meant that it was the day of the event that the whole trip had been building up too; soiree night! We didn't spend a lot of time in the park as we wanted to have enough time to get ready. Today's aims were to meet Mickey and Minnie and Snow White and then leave the park early to go and get ready for lots of spooky fun!
Every time we went in for Extra Magic Hours, the queue for Mickey and Minnie was over an hour long, and with them changing sets every half an hour, it takes even longer to get through. So, today we made it our mission to wake up really early, get ready and get into the park early enough to be at the front of the queue for the main mouse and his leading lady; and we did just that.

If you read my 'Disney Bucket List' post which I wrote just before we went on our trip, you'll know that meeting Mickey and Minnie together has been one of my dreams since I was young. And today was the day it finally came true. We were one of the first in the queue and had a 10 minute wait before we met the mice who started it all; and they were adorable. Mickey was full of hugs, but I don't think Minnie was too impressed, however I soon won her over with my spooky Halloween ears which she absolutely loved. Our photos with them are the cutest, and as you can tell by my face I really couldn't have been happier. We said goodbye to Mickey and Minnie and then headed over to the Princess Pavillion as the rumours were that it was our favourite Snow White.

When we got to the Pavillion, there were around twenty young girls dressed up as Snow White so we knew from that that she was the Princess waiting to meet guests. Laura came over to meet us, as she is one of the biggest Snow White lovers, so being able to meet her together was magical. I really don't understand why no one appreciates Snow White as a Princess, I mean she's the original Disney Princess and she's super sweet, so what's not to love!? The queue was long, but we were entertained by Magic Alan who amazed me with three magic tricks. He made a ball appear in my hand and then disappear again and it really freaked me out.

Soon enough, it was time for Chloe, Laura and I to go in and meet our favourite Princess. I've had so much admiration for Snow White since I was very young, it's the first film I can remember seeing and it's the film that holds so many memories of my childhood; dressing up as Snow, reading the book and acting out scenes from the film with my Grandparents. I met Snow White for the first time when I was 9, but from what I remember I just stared at her in awe and didn't say anything so this time, I actually wanted to speak to her and remember to give her a hug.

We walked into the room and she was just so beautiful. I ran straight up to her and gave her the biggest hug and she commented on my sparkly jumper and my ears, she also said that the glitter on my face reminded her of the diamonds that the Dwarves have in the mine. We then spoke about the Dwarves; I asked how Dopey was, because he's my favourite, and she told me she'd baked them a pie for when they arrived home. Apparently, she's going to bring them all over to London to come and see us, I'm still waiting to hear back about that.

Chloe and Laura then went to meet Snow, and we had one of the best interactions of the whole trip. Today was a day of making all our character meeting dreams come true. We had a Princess photo taken individually and then did an impression of the Dwarves for our group photo. From that moment on, Laura, Chloe and I became known as the Snow Squad!

After meeting Snow, we adventured over to Adventureland to catch an early ride on Pirates of the Caribbean and then went to see if we could find Baloo the Bear; meeting Baloo was another dream of mine. He's my Dad's favourite and before I left, I promised him that if there was any chance I could meet him then I would and I'd say hello to him from Dad. We didn't really have anything better to do with our morning so we hopped in the queue to meet Baloo (that rhymed lol!).
Then, King Louie turned up. It's safe to say I was gutted but Laura reassured me that Baloo would come soon. So, we waited, and waited, and waited but King Louie just didn't want to move. We kept our place at the front of the queue by telling everyone that they could go in front of us.

Eventually King Louie left and Baloo came bounding over to the meet and greet area, hiding behind one of the posts and entertaining the guests with a lovely dance. We were at the front of the queue at this point and when he opened his arms, I ran straight into them giving him the biggest hug. I think it was potentially the biggest hug I gave any character. When I told him that he was my Dad's favourite, he was so happy, and I think I hugged him another three times before we had out photos taken. When we were about to leave, he pointed to his nose for me to give him a kiss which I happily obliged too. I love it when characters ask you to give them a kiss, I really think they make the cutest photos!

After meeting Baloo, we watched the second cavalcade of the day and then headed out of the park for some food. We wanted to spend as much of Soiree in the park as possible so we made sure we had a big meal very early. After having some very tasty food, we headed back to the hotel ready to transform ourselves into Megara and Mary Poppins.
This is the part where I have to write a small apology to the lovely people who read this blog, when we got to the park on Soiree night, my camera sadly died so the photos that I wanted to take were sadly not possible.

We headed back into the park at around 6pm and caught the last part of Disney Dreams. It took us all our time to get into the park because the organisation from the Cast Members was absolutely appalling. They had to get everyone without a wristband out of the park and everyone with a wristband into the park, and when everyone collided it was an absolute nightmare. Chloe and I had to walk all the way around the park, got caught in a crowd of people and pushed back to where we'd come from and then finally met up with Jade, Anna and Vivi to go and head over to meet some villains.

We went to meet the whole gang at the 'Meet Mickey Mouse' area of the park which had been decorated for the Soiree and changed to a Villains meet. It was at this point that we were able to admire everyone's costumes and I actually can't even fault one costume; everyone I saw looked absolutely flawless. If anything, I wish I'd made a little bit more of an effort. I liked to think of myself as a modern, indie, Mary Poppins.

Laura, Chloe and I had the pleasure of meeting the Queen of Hearts, and although she wasn't the best meet of the trip, it was still really lovely to meet her and she made us kiss her hand three times. Our photos from this meet and greet are some of my favourites from the trip, especially the photo when we are all trying to be scary. Can we also please appreciate how amazing Laura and Chloe look as Sally and Megara!

After meeting the Queen, everyone split off into their separate groups so Chloe, Laura and I headed over to the Jack Skellington meet. The queue was huge, so we did something a little selfish and waited for Jack to change sets so that Laura could meet him before he went backstage. Seeing Laura meet Jack when she was dressed as Sally makes my heart feel warm and fuzzy. There's no better feeling than seeing your friends meet their favourite characters and seeing the pure happiness on their face.

We then headed over to go and see the Halloween Cavalcade, it was pretty much just the same as the one during the day but a little more spooky. It was also such a pleasure to meet Seany B, who I've wanted to meet for such a long time! I made a lot of friends whilst watching the cavalcade, including some incredibly scary rats and a two pumpkins. We were all absolutely starving after the parade so we all went to Casey's for another hotdog. I really didn't understand the hype around Casey's hotdogs but now I do, just writing about them is making me crave one.

If I'm going to be honest with you, Soiree really wasn't being sold to me. What with the horrendous level of organisation, the manic crowds of people and the three hour queues to meet charatcers; the whole thing was a shambles. But then things started to take a very positive turn. We walked over to Dr Facillier's dance party, which was probably the best thing about the night. The only way I can describe it is like one big, outdoor nightclub where the DJ was playing some absolute tunes including Bruno Mars, Rhianna, Ariana Grande, Beyonce and even the Macarena. I can't even begin to tell you how happy I was being able to spend my night dancing with two of my favourite people. Then, Dr Facillier joined the crowd and ended up dancing with us for a little while; it was so bizarre but so amazing!

By the time we'd left the party, it was around half past midnight, so we bid one another goodbye and Chloe and I headed back to our hotel for a well deserved sleep. My back and feet were absolutely killing me, so much so that I walked back to the hotel with no shoes on. When we got back into the hotel, which now had no internet, we went straight to our room. I immediately took my make up off and according to Chloe, when she got out of the shower, I was curled up in a ball fast asleep.

If you want to see what Soiree was really like, I recommend watching Laura's vlog of the night, she got all the best parts of it!

I can't wait to share our Day 4 adventures with you!

Lots of Love,
Meg

Disney Halloween Day 1: Travelling, New Friends & Villains

It's been a long time since I've blogged and I've got a few things to apologise for. The first is that I didn't finish 'blogtober' but I was preparing to go to Disney so I think I can be forgiven for that. The second is that I haven't blogged in a very long time; when we came back from Disney I had so many Uni deadlines and I couldn't fit any time for my blog in, I've really missed it though. And finally the third is how many photos, emotional rants and Disney magic you're going to get in this blog post. Actually, scrap that, I'm not apologising for that at all.

If you hadn't guessed already, I'm going to be writing all about my recent trip to Disney. If you didn't know, in these past two weeks I've been on a Halloween trip to Disneyland Paris. I was there from the 29th October to the 2nd November and I had the most magical time; definitely the best trip I've had to date. I've been planning these blog posts for a while now, but bringing myself to write them was hard; how do you put a trip that was so magical and amazing into words? I don't know, but I sure am going to try. I've decided to split my blog posts into days because so much went on and I figured that one blog post would probably just turn into a novel.

A disclaimer before I start: I am in no way bragging or trying to show off about my trip. As you know already, I share pretty much everything on here and I thought it would be really nice to be able to share all my experiences, memories and photos with you.

Disney Day 1
Chloe and I were like two small children on the night before we went to Disney. We just kept talking, checking our clocks and waiting for the alarm to go off so we knew that it was an acceptable time to get up and start getting ready. We had never actually met before, which some people may find strange. Sure, we'd spoken online for ages and we'd skyped but there's something about meeting in person that is so different. However, we didn't have to worry, we hit it off straight away and I have literally found a friend for life. I love Chloe to pieces, she's the loveliest angel.

We jumped on the 7am train from Banbury to London, got an uber from Marylebone to St Pancras and then made our way to check in. We travelled to Disney by Eurostar and as this was my first time, I was extremely apprehensive. Looking back, I don't know why I got so worried because the whole thing was so easy and now I don't think I'd travel to Paris any other way. As we were early to arrive at the station, we printed off our tickets, went to get some breakfast and then headed through security and passport checks. That was probably the most stressful part of the whole process; lifting a full suitcase onto the machine when you're as weak and small as I am was not a fun experience.

Due to us getting there so early, and getting through security as quickly as we did, we had two hours until our train departed. But the two hours absolutely flew by; we were joined by our friends Eleanor, Beth and Jade who are all so lovely. The thing I find so crazy about this whole trip is that none of us had ever actually met before, but it felt like I'd known everyone forever. We spent our time walking around the station, eating lots of food and planning all the stuff we wanted to do whilst we were in the most magical place on earth.

Soon enough our train was called, by the main mouse himself, so cases in hands and ears on heads, we plodded up the escalator and boarded our Eurostar. It was very quiet, much quieter than I expected  but that completely worked in our favour as we were all able to sit together. I didn't know the train had started moving and when I realised that it was actually us moving and not the train next to us, I freaked out a little bit. As I'd never been on the Eurostar before, I didn't know what the tunnel was like or how long it was going to take. We'd been moving for about five minutes when we hit our first tunnel. We were going through and it was a good 10 to 15 minutes of darkness, the next thing we were at this really modern train station. The only downside was that it didn't look very French. I made the point of asking my new found friends 'Are we in France yet?' to which they all started to laugh. After that I asked the same question after every tunnel we went through; but ended up missing the entrance and exit from the actual Eurostar Tunnel; what a loon.

Apart from my excitement to go in the tunnel, the journey to Paris was very quick. Chloe and I did our make up on the way and we passed the rest of the time with a hilarious game of Cards Against Humanity. I also had Steve asking me what country we were in after every tunnel that we passed; I'm still not convinced that we were in France.

The next thing we knew, we'd arrived. Chloe and I said goodbye to the others and hopped on the shuttle bus to go and check into our hotel. We stayed in the Magic Circus hotel which is one of Disney's partner hotels. As you can probably tell by the name, the whole hotel was circus themed; even the rooms! The lobby was absolutely stunning; we even had a spa and a swimming pool. The check in was really simple, and we were given our key pretty much straight away. As the hotel was so big, finding our room was a bit of a struggle but we found it eventually. I'm really sad I didn't manage to take any proper photos of our room but it was massive, we had one bunk bed, a queen sized bed and the biggest bathroom I've ever seen in a Disney hotel. I will definitely be staying there again.

After dumping our bags down in the hotel room and freshening ourselves up a little bit, we headed back into the park to get straight into the Disney Magic. But before we were allowed into the actual park we had to do something we'd been waiting for for months; we had to go and get our annual passes. The lovely Jade sponsored Chloe and I which enabled us to get two 'Dream' annual passes with a 10% discount which means as many Disney trips as we want for a whole year! The process of getting an annual pass was very simple. We went to the ticket desk at the side of the Disney Hotel where we paid for our passes and were given a temporary ticket to get us into the parks. Once into the park, we could go over to the annual passport office at any time to change our ticket for the actual pass.

Once we'd paid, we met up with Eleanor, Laura and Beth to walk into the park together. Your first time going into the park, on any trip, is just an experience that can't be put into words. I always like to describe Disneyland as a bubble; it's a bubble that takes away your worries and replaces them with a little sprinkle of pixie dust. The atmosphere just wraps you up in it's happiness and you find yourself skipping down Main Street, singing along. There isn't a feeling like it, for me it's the closest thing to pure joy I can describe. As we walked towards the Castle, I shed a little tear. I really didn't think I'd be there for Halloween and just being surrounded by so much joy and love really overwhelmed me. The Castle looks more beautiful every time I see it and I always have about 600 photos of it from every angle in the park. I don't care what people say, it is definitely the most beautiful castle.

After having a couple of photos taken in front of the Castle, we made our way over to the annual passport office to sign all the forms and become official annual pass holders. This was probably the most complicated part of the process as everything was in French and we couldn't really understand what they wanted us to do (thank goodness for Laura and her French speaking skills). Around two hours later, we all came out with our shiny new annual passes ready for discounts, fast passes and a whole load of Disney trips in the future.

We timed things really well because as soon as we left the annual passport office, the parade was about to begin. We really didn't think we'd be able to catch parade on the first day so this was an extra bonus. We stood at the pillars next to the castle, singing and dancing along to 'Magic Everywhere'. Parade is one of my favourite things to watch in Disneyland Paris as it always fills me with so much joy and brings back so many memories from when I was younger. We had a lovely conversation with Ariel and Eric as well as Aladdin and Jasmine, I had the best interactions with Baloo and Peter Pan and we danced along with Eeyore. The thing I remember the most about that first parade is when I blew a kiss to Chip and Dale and they started to pull me in via an imaginary rope. I'll be sending out the wedding invites soon.

After watching the Parade (and dancing and singing along like there was no tomorrow) it was safe to say that we were in need of a sit down and some serious refreshments. We headed over to the cafe near Star Wars and I had the most delicious chicken burger. It was the first time we got to use our annual passes for discount which felt absolutely amazing; I felt so special. During our food break, we were able to watch the last Jedi training of the day which I really wanted to take part in but was sadly too old. Note to Disney, why don't they do a Jedi training for adults, huh?
We also used this time to catch up and get to know each other a little bit more. I'm going to say this a lot throughout these blog post but it really does baffle me that none of us had actually met before, we all hit it off straight away and I have literally made friends for life. I know so many people complain about the internet and that we rely on it too much, but it really does provide us with some amazing opportunities and the chance to meet some wonderful people.

As I'd never experienced a Disney Halloween before, I wanted to try and experience everything it had to offer. One of these experiences included watching the spectacular villains show and meeting some very sassy, spooky villains. We watched three Villains shows, because they were just so incredible, and then met Gaston, the Evil Queen and Hook. If you read my 'Character Meet List' that I posted a couple of days before our trip, you'll know that Gaston was one of the characters that I was desperate to meet. We had the best meet ever with him, he told me that he would marry me because I looked like Belle; I really did take that as a compliment. We then ran over to try and meet Hook who was so funny; he kept stroking my face with his hook but he gave me a good hug so that really made up for it.

One of my favourite meets of the whole trip was definitely meeting the Evil Queen. I loved how it was up to the characters who they chose to meet and at first we didn't think she was going to pick us but she soon did. When we went up to her, we started to have a conversation about how beautiful she looked and she happened to point out that it was disgusting that Snow White was on my pen. Suddenly, out of the blue, this little girl and her father came from nowhere, the little girl running up to the Queen and giving her a hug. The father just stood there and laughed. The Queen looked alarmed and asked us if they were a part of our group, when we told her that they weren't with us she turned her sassiness up a notch and stepped out, right into the fathers face and said 'If you are not with this group of girls then I suggest you move back straight away. Did I call you up? No I did not. Get out of my face and go and wait your turn.'. I know she's a Disney Villain, but I actually love her after that.

Disney Dreams was something that was on the agenda for the first night in the parks, so we decided it would be a good time to go on some rides whilst we waited. Firstly, we had the spookiest ride on Phantom. Jade and I were serenaded with Adele's 'Hello' by a lovely Cast Member as he put the barrier over us, and we screamed every time he jumped out on use too. Phantom seemed to be a lot darker and spookier than I remember it being; maybe that's just me, or maybe they changed it for the Halloween season, who knows?

When we got off Phantom, we bumped into Ellie, Steve and crew who were heading over to Pirates and asked if we'd like to join them. As we were heading over there ourselves anyway, we took the opportunity for a huge group photo on the ride, another one of the things that was on my Disney Bucket List. As we went round, we were singing, chanting and probably being an annoyance to the rest of the people in our boat. We chanted 'PIRATES! PIRATES! PIRATES!' all the way round, sang a beautiful rendition of 'Yo! Ho! Yo! Ho! A Pirates Life for Me' and started a fabulous Mexican Wave which entertained everyone as we waited to get off the ride. We were either the people you loved, or the people you loathed; there was no in-between. Our photo was also super cute!

After watching Pirates, we headed back to Main Street to get a spot for Dreams. We weren't really fussed about getting at the front, we just wanted to be able to see what was going on and listen to the wonderful soundtrack. I was a complete blubbering mess, as I always am when I watch Dreams, which is probably no surprise to you. It's just the beginning and the ending that really makes me feel emotional, oh and the lantern scene from Tangled, but you guys knew that anyway. Eleanor, Jade, Laura, Beth, Chloe and I all sang and danced along. I just can't even begin to describe how happy I was. It's the happiest I've been in such a long time.

When Dreams was over, we came out of the park and went to look around World of Disney to see what things we'd like to take back home with us. We also thought it'd be a way of beating the rush on the shuttle busses but we were very, very wrong. If there was one thing I didn't really like about our hotel, it was the shuttle busses on a night. They were soooo busy, and there was no way of avoiding the rush, unless you missed Dreams and that was something we definitely weren't willing to do.

When Chloe and I got back to the Hotel, we sat in the Lobby for two hours using the WiFi to upload photos and keep our families up to date on our Disney adventures.

I can't wait to share all our Day 2 adventures with you in my next blog post!

Lots of Love,
Meg
