One of the best things about a trip to Disney is the build up; it's that moment when you watch peoples videos, see an advert on the telly or go into Disney Store and get all excited because you're going to the most magical place on earth. Of course, the next best thing is actually being there.
However, going to Disney (especially if it's your first time) can be a little bit daunting as there's so much to do. You'll want to get everything done, or at least the best things, before you leave. Truth is, it's really hard to do everything. I've been to Disneyland Paris so many times and still haven't managed to experience everything the park has to offer.
I've been thinking and I've put together a list of all the things I think you should do when you visit Disneyland Paris. Here are my DLP must-dos
1) Go inside the Castle and visit the Dragon
A lot of people don't realise that you can actually go inside the Castle and have a look around. It's all Sleeping Beauty themed, and it even has the spinning wheel that she pricks her finger on (that always creeped me out a little bit when I was younger). As you venture up into the Castle, you'll be able to go out onto the balcony and have the most beautiful view of Fantasyland (it's the perfect photo opportunity). Then you can make your way down below the Castle to go and visit the Dragon. This is one of the most amazing things you can do; it's so realistic and magical. It's quite sad that people don't visit because they just don't know it's there.
2) Buy Minnie or Mickey Mouse Ears
This is a basic must-do for any Disney trip, whether you're going to Disneyland, Disneyland Paris or Walt Disney World. I think that buying ears just adds more fun and magic to the Disney experience; plus they look really great on photos!
3) Ride Big Thunder Mountain and Peter Pan's Flight
Hands down, these rides are the best two rides out of both the Disney Parks. Big Thunder Mountain is sooo funny and it's the perfect rollercoaster (I'm petrified of rollercoasters and I absolutely love it). Then there's Peter Pan's Flight and it's the most magical ride in the Park; I cried when I first went on it. I did a blog post about my Top 10 Rides so if you want more information you should check that out!
4) Stay on-site in a Disneyland Hotel
Staying in a Disney Hotel, especially one of the main ones, is the perfect way to add more magic to your holiday. There's a Disney on-site hotel for every budget and every type of family so you're just spoilt for choice. Most of them are within walking distance of the park so there's no cramming on the shuttle buses. The main Disney Hotels come with Extra Magic Hours and I can't stress enough how important it is to take advantage of these. It enables you to meet all the classic characters and even get on some of the main attractions before the queues get busy.
5) Character Dining Experience
Again, another way to add more magic into the trip. There are so many different types of character dining experiences for everyone; all different price ranges and different characters. The main character dining experiences take place in Auberge, Café Mickey and Inventions. It's the perfect opportunity to get photos with and meet all your favourite characters.
6) Autograph Books
If there's one thing you buy, apart from Minnie Mouse Ears, it has to be an autograph book. Collecting signatures from characters is so much fun, and it gives you something to speak to them about. But don't just shove the autograph book in their face; be polite and lovely and they'll absolutely love you.
7) Watch the Parade & interact with characters
The parade is one of the best things I have ever experienced at Disneyland Paris. The music is so catchy, and seeing all your favourite characters go past is just a feeling that can't be described. When you're watching the parade; start dancing, go crazy, sing along and make sure you're interacting with all the characters. If they notice you're having a great time they'll interact with you more and they'll have a great time too!
8) Disney Dreams
This is my favourite thing about visiting Disneyland Paris, and I hope they keep something like it as they develop the park. The castle turns into a canvas for Peter Pan to take you on a journey around the Disney classics whilst he tries to catch his shadow. Just thinking about the show gives me goosebumps and makes me feel all fluttery inside. It's just the most magical thing you'll ever experience, I can't stress enough how much you have to watch it.
9) Photo in front of the Castle
Make sure you have a photo in front of the Castle, and take as many photos as you can because they're the best things to look back on. The castle provides the perfect backdrop for a photo. I'd also recommend taking advantage of Disney PhotoPass if you want some good quality photos take by professional photographers.
10) World of Disney
It's the any Disney lover's dream.
Situated in the Disney Village, you'll notice it straight away and I promise that you wont want to leave. It's where I spent most of my money on our trip and it's basically just Disney heaven. It's the perfect place to find gifts or even treat yourself to a little something.
11) Annette's Diner
This is my favourite place to eat in the whole Disney Park. I don't know what I love more; the amazing burgers or the fact that they serve you on roller skates. It's a definite must-do if you're looking for some yummy food and a throwback to the 1950's/1960's.
12) Walk through the Arcades
The Disney arcades are so over-looked. Hardly anyone ever visits them but they have the cutest little shops and it's the perfect shortcut when the park is getting extremely busy. I'd definitely recommend to pay these a visit; you'll find some unique stuff in the shops.
13) Visit the Disneyland Hotel and smell it
Okay so this sounds a little weird, but if you can sneak into the Disneyland Hotel then do it. It's the massive pastel pink hotel as soon as you enter the park. It definitely has it's own smell and it has the most beautiful lobby. I felt like Belle walking down the grand staircase.
14) Enjoy every second
You need to enjoy every second of your Disney experience. Accept Disneyland Paris for what it is (it's not as big as Walt Disney World, but just as magical). Create magical memories you'll remember for the rest of your life!
What's a thing you MUST DO when you visit Disney?
Lots of Love,
Meg
