The Staple Summer Dress

Hasn't the summer been amazing?
England may have missed out on the World Cup Final and the government may still be a shambles, but there's no denying that the weather has been glorious. I've finally been able to dig out my pretty summer dresses and style some cute outfits that I'd only dream of wearing abroad.

Summer fashion is fun and easy. I love all the bright colours, glittery sandals and floaty dresses. I don't have to think about being too cold, everything looks great with a denim jacket and a simple summer dress will see me right for a shopping trip with the girls followed by a night in the beer garden. What's not to love?

I don't know about you but I seem to spend most of my time scrolling through ASOS. It was on one of these scrolling sessions that I came across this Frill Detail Mini Sundress. Luckily for me, it was payday so I couldn't resist treating myself - it was too cute to leave!

Polka dot print has been a massive trend this summer and I am living for it. My wardrobe is polka dot heaven so the minute I saw this dress, I knew it would be the perfect addition. It's definitely a dress style that I would normally choose however, I was unsure about the low neck. As I'm petite, a low neck isn't something I can usually pull off so you can imagine how happy I was when I tried it on and it looked super cute!

The dress is a little shorter than I expected but the pretty frills and cute print make for the perfect girly summer item. It has adjustable straps, so the low neck wasn't as much of an issue and the floaty style has been keeping me cool during these warm summer days we've been having. From the minute I tried the dress on, I fell in love. I just wanted to twirl around my room like a princess (no exaggeration). It's my favourite summer purchase this year and it was so much fun to style.

Photos by Emma

Since I've finished Uni, I seem to spend more time in Liverpool than I ever did when I was a student. Emma and I met up in the city and strolled down to the Docks for a coffee. It was such a beautiful day. The carousel was playing hits by the Beatles, tourists flocked to have their photos taken in front of the Liver Buildings and I almost paid £3 for an ice cream.

My outfit of choice was inspired by the legendary Audrey Hepburn. Her effortlessly chic style is something I try to reciprocate, even though no one could ever be as beautiful as she was. I styled my dress with a pair of black sandals and my little black backpack. You'd have thought that white sandals would have looked cute but they just didn't look right. The black was the perfect contrast and I think I pulled it off.

I really hope the polka dot trend never dies!

What's been your favourite summer trend?

Hey Mama, Welcome to the Sixties!

If I could travel back in time, I'd like to experience what it was like to be a teenager in the 50's/60's. It was the best time for everything; music, Hollywood and of course fashion. Frank Sinatra was on the radio, The Beatles were taking the world by storm, Audrey Hepburn was on the big screen and mini skirts were making a comeback. What's not to love?

I was having a browse on ASOS when I came across this Double-Breasted Mini Skirt. I fell in love with it straight away, so as a little treat for passing my Uni assignments, I selected my size and added it to my shopping bag. Although this skirt is something I'd consider to be very 'me', it's not something I'd normally buy so I was nervous to see how it would look and if I could pull it off.

The first thing that initially drew me to the skirt was the burnt orange colour. It's not a colour that makes a big appearance in my wardrobe, however, I'm trying to take more risks with my fashion choices this year so it seemed like the perfect addition. The black buttons are such a nice contrast and give the skirt such a sixties vibe - a look I've tried (and failed) to pull off in the past.

The skirt is more high waisted than I was expecting and is quite tight around the waist, but it is incredibly flattering and will show off your perfect figure in all the right places. It's such an effortlessly chic item and I'm so glad I spotted it. I wore it to go and see Jersey Boys last month and so many people stopped me asking me where it was from. I'm absolutely in love with it and the temptation to wear it with everything is so real.
Last week, I went for brunch with my lovely friend Emma (who kindly took these photos). It was absolutely freezing so, along with my skirt, I wore some thick, woolly tights, a black polo neck and my black jacket. I also wore my little black backpack, which featured in my previous post, adding a cute twist to the outfit. The orange added a nice pop of colour to what would have been an incredibly gloomy outfit, which is the thing I love the most. I think it's so fun to give old styles a modern twist, and I'm loving seeing all the sixties inspired outfits on the high street at the moment.

Although I've only worn the skirt casually, it could be jazzed up with a nice pair of heels and a black off-shoulder top for a date night, a night out or a dinner with the girls. All I do know is that I feel incredibly pretty and elegant when I wear it. There's no better feeling than wearing clothes that make you feel good about yourself and I think that's such an important thing to remember. As long as you feel comfortable and happy in what you're wearing then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

I'm absolutely loving this look at the moment.
Here's what I'm wearing:

If you could bring back any fashion trend from the past, what would it be?

The Little Black Backpack

The backpack is a trend that never seems to fade. We're all walking around with cute little bags strapped to our backs and I absolutely love it. I'll admit, I didn't get the trend at first but when I received my Zoella travel backpack a few years ago, I've never looked back.

Recently, I've been on the lookout for a plain, black backpack that I can use when I'm out and about - whether that be a shopping day with the mother or an afternoon brunch with my friends. I needed something that looked stylish and cute but that was also affordable. You won't believe me, but finding the perfect backpack proved to be harder than I thought - they were either too big, too small or too expensive. I was convinced that the perfect backpack didn't exist.

Then I went into New Look.

I love shopping in New Look and if you raid my wardrobe, you'll discover that the majority of my clothes are from there. However, I don't know about you, but I never seem to browse New Look's  bag department - I mean, where has this been all my life? I actually went into my local store looking for a coat, and came out with the backpack of my dreams instead.

New Look have a wide selection of bags for every occasion and I know it's going to be the first place I look when I need a new bag to add to my collection.  I was amazed to find a variety of backpacks, in every colour and size imaginable. I really was spoilt for choice. After much deliberation, I chose this beautiful black Whipstitch Tassel Mini Backpack for £22.

(Photos: Emma)

The reason I opted for a smaller backpack is because I think that the others can just be too big. Who needs that much room in a bag? Don't get me wrong, I love my Zoella backpack but this little purchase is quickly becoming my favourite. The tassel detail adds a cute, chic look to any outfit and if you're using it in the summer (which I definitely will be), it'll give you all the bohemian vibes. They also sell the bag in brown, so if you want to add a pop of colour to your outfit then that's the one for you.

With a small zip compartment, it's the perfect size to fit my pink River Island purse, along with my make-up bag, a hairbrush and my phone. Oh, and not forgetting my house keys (which I normally do). It looks cute and classy for a day out with the family, or a trip to the theatre, something I've been doing a lot lately, and I think black is a safe colour for every season. It's got buttons at the side so that you can make the bag smaller and a small button at the front to close.

It may not be the perfect bag for a day in the office, but this is quickly becoming my go-to bag for every occasion. Soon, you're going to be fed up of seeing it in outfit posts. I'll be taking it on holiday, to Uni and to work - just adding it to an outfit can dress you up or dress you down (depending on the look you're going for, obviously).

If you're looking for a new little black backpack, which I think is a must-have in every wardrobe, or if you're just looking for a new bag in general then I highly recommend popping into your nearest New Look or having a browse online

What's your go-to bag?

Mustard Jumpers & Autumn Leaves

I used to hate Autumn when I was younger, I don't know what it was but it just seemed such a sad season. However, now that I'm 20, it just so happens to be one of my favourite seasons. I love taking the dog for a walk around the park, walking on crunchy leaves and the beautiful colours of the trees but my favourite thing is the fashion. Autumn colours are so aesthetically pleasing so I thought I'd show you one of my go-to autumnal outfits.

I've been searching for a mustard coloured jumper for months - I wanted the perfect autumn shade but it seemed impossible to find. I think it's important to add a bit of colour to your autumn wardrobe. It's so easy for people to reach for the black clothes and it's a common misconception that bright colours are for summer only but I'm here to change that. A mustard jumper is a staple for your wardrobe and a really popular trend this season. If a mustard jumper just isn't your style, try a mustard scarf instead - anything mustard will do. I picked up this jumper in H&M and it was one of those last minute buys. I was just about to give up my search when I spotted this little gem hiding at the back of the rack. It was exactly what I'd been looking for.

New Look has some lovely pieces in for autumn and I especially love their scarfs. I have an obsession with scarfs - I think they're the perfect accessory to jazz up an outfit for the colder seasons (you'll never see me without a scarf in autumn/winter). I picked up this beige checked scarf in August as I fell in love with the colours and knew it would be the perfect match to my camel coat. I'm also wearing my New Look ripped Hallie jeans - you all think Topshop do the best jeans but New Look is the place to be, I'm telling ya. On my feet I'm wearing my trusty black ankle boots from Dorothy Perkins, I don't think they sell them anymore but there are plenty of similar items available. An outfit is never complete without a watch and mine is from NY London, their watches are super pretty and I always get compliments when I wear mine.

The thing I love the most about this outfit is that it's the perfect combination of casual and smart, plus it can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion or your mood. You'll be seeing a lot of me in this jumper - are you a fan of the mustard trend?

A massive thank you to my lovely friend Emma who was the best photographer and the loveliest gal.

Summer Style | Dots & Crop Tops

Another post about my visit to Bakewell, but this time about my outfit. I absolutely loved what I wore to explore the town, it was the perfect balance between stylish and comfortable which is why I thought it warranted its own blog post. This outfit was inspired by the lovely Tanya Burr. I saw her wearing something similar and fell in love with it so decided to re-create the look myself. I recently went to Topshop with my Mum and saw these dotty trousers in the sale. I'd had my eye on them for a while, so when I saw that they'd been reduced I couldn't resist treating myself. I was unsure about how they'd look at first as I'm quite self-conscious of how my figure looks in this sort of thing. I paired the trousers with a plain white crop top, black converse, my grey rucksack and silver hooped earrings and I think it looks super cute. It's really casual and comfy, perfect for a day shopping with the girls or exploring cute little villages.

The thing I love the most about these trousers is that you can wear them casually and also for a night out or a special occasion. I recently wore them for my Dad's birthday meal with a black bodysuit,  black heels and a black clutch and it looked really elegant. It was Audrey Hepburn inspired and I felt very classy when I wore it. I'm absolutely loving the wide leg trouser style at the moment and I think it's a staple item for both Summer and Autumn wardrobes.
What do you think of wide leg trousers making a comeback?

Weekly Update │Manchester, Shopping & Mcfly

23/04/2016 - 29/04/2016

It's almost May, how is that even possible? Christmas only feels like it was two days ago, and now we're almost halfway through the year. This week, I've just not known what on earth to do with myself. Because I've got no real purpose to be here in Liverpool at this moment, I just want to spend all of my time at home, but at the same time, I hate having to keep getting the train back to Liverpool to go and do things with my friends. This could be laziness on my part, but it's just so expensive.

Despite me being bored all the time and literally pacing the house trying to find something to do, this week has actually been very very good. I went out on Saturday night with a few of my friends for drinks and dances around Liverpool. It was a kind of 'end of uni' celebration for me, and we had the best night. Okay, yes I did have a little to drink, but I wasn't THAT drunk, just happy. I love going out and just dancing and singing and having an absolute blast with my friends; it makes me happy.

I also think the reason I had a little too much to drink was the fact that I'd just spent over £70 in New Look. It's 20% off for students at the moment so as a little treat from me too me, I decided to get started on my Spring/Summer wardrobe (it was sunny at the time, not like it is now with the snow and rain). I picked up some absolutely gorgeous things, one of which is a pair of dungarees that I am completely and utterly obsessed with. I wasn't sure if to get them at first, because they're not something I would normally wear, but I took a risk and now I absolutely love them. I wore them to the Pub Quiz on Monday, which we lost again by one point. I don't think we're ever going to come anywhere in this Quiz.

One of the nicest things about this week has been meeting up with friends who I haven't seen for a very very long time. Charlotte, one of my best friends from college, and I went shopping in Liverpool (again!) and had a chance to catch up on each others lives. We go to the same Uni, but we're both always so busy so we don't get as much time to see each other as we would like. We had a browse around the shops, and I picked up a few more things including a grey hoodie from Forever 21, and some new make-up (it was 3 for 2 in Boots, I couldn't resist). We then went for Pizza with her younger sister and it was so nice to see her; I can't believe how much she's growing up, it makes me feel old!

I hate trains. We all know I hate trains. But this week I went off to Manchester, on a train believe it or not, and I had the loveliest day out with my friends. We went for a meeting with an editor to talk about a new project we're going to be working on, but we decided to head into Manchester early and spend the day there. I don't go to Manchester a lot, so it was nice to be able to walk around and almost get killed by a moving tram. They really need to make those tram lines clearer, I nearly got killed like six times. The meeting went really well, and when I can tell you all more about it, I will!

As I write this blog post for you, I'm in a little bit of a down mood. One, because I'm seriously missing Disney right now, and two because I've just attempted (and failed) to get me and Liv tickets to see McFly in the Summer. We tried to get them from LiveNation, who didn't put the tickets up on sale on time and then when they did, they were all sold out. Great. The thing I'm hating this week is ticket scouts, the people that buy a bunch of tickets to a gig they don't intend to go too and then sell them on for hundreds of pounds. I mean, I love Mcfly but I'm never going to pay £100 to see them. I don't think I'd pay £100 to see anyone. You'd think by now there'd be a way to stop people from doing this, it's so annoying.

Speaking of Liv, my bestest friend has started using her blog again (much to me pestering her 24/7), so I think you should go and check it out, because I love it and I'm sure you'll love it too!

Ghosts, Tricks & Treats | Halloween Fashion Inspiration

Hello Everyone!
It's that spooky time of year again. The time when you get dressed up as a dead person and walk the streets knocking on peoples doors asking for sweets, go to a party dressed as something scary or simply just stay in with some popcorn and scare yourself silly whilst watching paranormal activity. Whatever your doing this Halloween, it's going to probably involve some form of costume. That's the worst part; finding something to wear. Although I'm not the biggest fan of Halloween, and I would much prefer bonfire night or Christmas, I really do love dressing up. I love putting on new clothes, doing my make-up and transforming myself into something else. So, I've been on the hunt for some lovely Halloween costumes for you all. I've chosen these from a range of shops, so I'll link everything that's included below.

Topshop
The first place I go to for some halloween costume inspiration is always Topshop. I think this is because they offer such a big collection, and eventhough it is on the pricer side, I think it's one of the best places to shop if you're going on a night out this Halloween.

The first outfit I chose is supposed to be a very discrete pumpkin. I know sometimes, on Halloween, people don't really want to go all out. The item that inspired me to create this outfit was the orange and black clutch bag, I really like the way the two colours clash together. They create a statement which is something I'm really liking at the moment. I wanted the bag to be the main item in this outfit, so pairing it with a black top, with the most beautiful design, and a pair of black disco pants seemed like the best option. I then picked out some gorgeous heels, which look very classy, but this can be paired with any black heels you have at home, or if you're not a heels kind of girl then black flats would work perfectly fine too. I then went into Claire's and found some cute pumpkin earrings, just to enhance the character and add a little more 'Halloween' to the outfit.

The second outfit is more of an outfit that you could chill out in if you're going to be staying in watching scary films, or watching X Factor like I will probably be doing. I'm really loving ripped jeans at the moment, they've been around for a while, but for Halloween I think they look really nice if you're just going for a really chilled, cool look. I've put a shirt with some vampire lips with the ripped jeans and skeleton socks, just because I thought they were extremely cute. If you want to go a little bit more spooky with the outfit, you could always add the spider web earrings that I've also teamed with the outfit. If you're looking for a spooky film to watch, as much as I hate them, I would definitely recommend 'Woman In Black'. It makes me scream every time.

Finally, the last outfit I picked out is supposed to be a cat. I know this is the typical Halloween Costume, and I'm pretty sure Liverpool will be full of cats on Saturday night, but it's one of the easiest costumes to style. Plus, if you're not willing to take a risk, you know that you wont be the only cat on the scene. I chose this beautiful black jumpsuit because it has a feline look with the lace around the top half. I then paired it with the beautiful black heels shown in the first outfit and added a pair of cat ears just to complete the look; I would definitely wear heels with this outfit as I'm not a fan of wearing jumpsuits with flats, they just don't look right sometimes. As for a bag, I picked out a metallic clutch bag as it adds some more colour to the outfit. If you're feeling even more adventurous, you could add these super-cute cat stud earrings that I found.

New Look

One of the best shops on the high street at the moment is New Look. It's perfect for people on a budget who still want some really cute clothes to wear for Halloween. I love the Halloween collection in New Look because they're items that you can wear all year round, so they'll definitely be value for money.

The first outfit is a devil costume. The minute I saw this red skater dress I fell in love with it. It looks very chic, and the bright colour is perfect for the autumn winter season. I feel like too many people wear dark colours and we need to brighten things up a little. I put this with some gold heels, but it can also be teamed with flats, as well as a black clutch bag. I feel like a black clutch is one of those essential things in every female wardrobe around the world. In order to make the outfit look like the devil, I've added a pair of devil horns on a headband, not too in your face, just nice and discrete. I also added a bracelet as I feel the outfit needs a little something to make a statement.
DRESS  |  SHOES  |  BAG  |  EARS  |  BRACELET

The next outfit is another outfit that is perfect for people staying in this Halloween. I'm going to do an outfit like this from every store I cover in this blog post, just because a bit of variety is good isn't it? I also think this would be perfect for an occasion such as taking younger siblings or relatives out trick or treating, or answering the door to trick or treaters. It gets into the spirit. This really casual look includes a ghostbusters t-shirt, a pair of black leggings with zip detail, a pair of chelsea boots which are perfect for autumn/winter and then a choker necklace. I love choker necklaces, I think they can add a really quirkiness to an outfit, just make sure you suit them and you're comfortable to wear one before you buy it though!
TOP  |  LEGGINGS  |  BOOTS  |  CHOKER

When I mention to dress up as a mouse for Halloween, it reminds everyone of Mean Girls. "I'm a Mouse, duh!". This is the most expensive of the three outfits but it's definitely the most elegant from the New Look collection. I saw this cropped leg jumpsuit and chose it because you don't see a lot of those around at the moment and I really liked the chic-ness it created. I think paired this with a pair of black heels, a black clutch, a pair of mouse ears and a beautiful faux fur collar. This collar adds a lot of elegance to the outfit and it'll keep you warm on those cold winter nights. In order to add a statement to the outfit, I teamed it with a beautiful gold necklace, which contrasts lovely with the black of the jumpsuit. I also really like the bracelet to go with the outfit too.

Boohoo
If I'm being honest, Boohoo has one of the poorest Halloween collections I have seen. It wasn't very inspiring, so using my imagination, I've come up with a few ideas that could be used for some Halloween costumes. Boohoo is such good value for money, and they always have different offers on so I would definitely recommend checking them out.

The first outfit is inspired by Sandy from Grease. I know this doesn't look like much, but not many people think of going as dead versions of characters from films. It's so much fun to do, and Sandy is one of the easiest characters to style. I chose this black bardot top, iconic from her look in the film, and teamed it with a pair of black disco pants, red heels to make a statement, a black clutch and a beautiful bracelet. I wanted Sandy's sassy side to come across with the outfit. Once the hair and make up is done, I can guarantee this outfit will look absolutely amazing.
TOP  |  DISCO PANTS  |  HEELS  |  BAG  |  BRACELET

Next up is the relaxed outfit, can you see a theme going on here? As I said before, Boohoo were quite poor for a Halloween collection, and a lot of the stuff was pyjamas and baggy t-shirts. I chose this night shirt/dress (whatever you want to call it) and put it with a pair of knee-high socks. I've seen a lot of these worn in magazines, and I think they can look really nice if you wear them right.
PYJAMAS  |  SOCKS

For the final outfit from the Halloween collection at Boohoo, I have gone for a gothic look. From the moment I saw this dress, I thought it looked beautiful. The lace detailing on the arms adds a real elegance to the look. The costume I'm going for here is something out of the Aadams family maybe? I paired this with some lovely black heels (the shoes from Boohoo are SO good), a black clutch bag and a lovely bracelet which really completes the outfit.
DRESS  |  SHOES  |  BAG  |  BRACELET

River Island

Again, I was quite disappointed with the Collection in River Island. It's all very dark colours, as you can probably tell from above, but nevertheless, there are still some really nice clothes in store. There also wasn't a lot of casual stuff in River Island, so all of these outfits are something you would probably wear on a night out. I have tried to dress them down a little, but the majority of items are quite dressy.

I adore the skirt in outfit number one. The string to tie the skirt once again creates the gothic look that seems to be all the rage this Halloween. This is further enhanced by the floaty sleeves of the black top, which would be tucked into the skirt. The gold in the black heels adds a pop of colour to the look, as does the statement necklace that I paired with the top. Grab a black over the shoulder bag and you're ready to go!
TOP  |  SKIRT  |  SHOES  |  BAG  |  NECKLACE

This was originally supposed to be the casual outfit, but I would say the third outfit is probably the most casual from my picks from the River Island collection. I chose some simple black jeans, a black long floaty top as I love this style (I have so many long floaty tops, they're great to go out in) and added a statement with a beautiful black and gold necklace. There's a lot of black and gold around for Halloween this year, so if you're looking for some inspiration, those are the colours that are everywhere this year. I then added some lovely boots with a frill detail and a lovely black bag.
TOP  |  JEANS  |  BOOTS  |  BAG  |  NECKLACE

As I previously said, this outfit is probably the most casual out of the whole collection. Once again, I went for some simple black jeans and a black top with some gorgeous frill detail. This adds a little bit of something to the outfit so that it doesn't look to plain. I do realise that a lot of the outfits I have included have had some form of heel involved, but it's completely fine to wear flat shoes too. I picked out these beautiful flats with some gold detail, which compliment the bag beautifully. If you wanted to add a little more 'party' to the outfit, you could add the earrings in too!
TOP  |  JEANS  |  SHOES  |  BAG  |  EARRINGS

ASOS

I really love shopping at ASOS, but when it comes to putting outfits together for blog posts, it's an absolute pain. Anyway, I've done the best I can. Overall, I think I've saved the best till last because this is the Halloween collection I am most impressed with. It's literally got everything you could want. Some of the things are on the pricier side, but there are some real bargains in there too!

I love how quirky this first outfit looks. The spider web dress screams Halloween straight away, and it really goes with the diamonds on the heels of the shoes. A choker works really well with this outfit, as does the moon and stars earrings which I absolutely love. The bag is extremely cute and adds to the overall quirkiness. I just think this outfit is so perfect, I love it!
DRESS  |  SHOES  |  BAG  |  CHOKER  |  EARRINGS

The second outfit is the most expensive and the most elegant out of the collection. I really like the idea of masks and masquerade balls so this became the theme for this outfit when I laid on the beautiful mask. The lace detail is gorgeous. I wanted all the focus to be on the mask, so a black jumpsuit is perfect, and to add some more spooky too it, I've put in a bat necklace which compliments the webs on the shoes. The fringe bag creates another statement. This outfit is definitely one of my favourites.
JUMPSUIT  |  SHOES  |  BAG  |  NECKLACE  |  MASK

You didn't think that I wouldn't include Disney in this blog post did you?!
This is the casual outfit for this collection. The Disney top is my favourite, Mickey looks so cute and it seems to be a really comfy material. This would be perfect with a pair of black jeans, a choker necklace to add a gothic element and some spooky skeleton socks. This is my favourite casual outfit of the whole blog post.
TOP  |  JEANS  |  SOCKS  |  CHOKER

I hope this blog post has given you some Halloween inspiration, whatever you'll be doing to celebrate the spooky season.

Happy Halloween!
Lots of Love,
Meg
